The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women's cross country team is ranked 15th in the 2018 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Top 35 Preseason Poll as recently announced by the organization.
CMS nabbed first place honors at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Duals on September 29, 2017 led by Bryn McKillop who powered to a top time of 21:27.66. The Athenas completed the multi-dual sweep as three other runners finished in the top 10 at La Mirada Park.
The SCIAC Championship at Prado Park in Chino, Calif. saw CMS secure its seventh consecutive league title as McKillop, the SCIAC Athlete of the Year, posted a winning time of 22:36.55 in the 6-kilometer race. Four Athenas in addition to McKillop finished in the top 10 and earned First Team All-SCIAC honors, while four others followed with second team recognition for finishing in spots 11-20 to help CMS clinch the conference crown.
CMS represented the SCIAC at the 2017 NCAA Division III Championship at the North Farm Course on the campus of host Principia in Elsah, Ill. The Athenas finished 12th overall in the field of 32 scoring teams, highlighted by an outstanding runner-up finish by McKillop in the field of 279 runners.
The 2018 cross country campaign gets underway Saturday, September 1.
