LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) was well represented in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-West Region honors. Nine student-athletes across three SCIAC institutions were recognized on Thursday.
Four members of the No. 1 Cal Lutheran women's volleyball team were recognized. Hope Stewart, Michelle Lawrence and Sarah Pappas were selected to the team along with Nicki Tetherow who earned Honorable Mention. Lawrence and Pappas earned the distinction for the third consecutive year while Stewart and Tetherow are first time honorees.
After a 3-0 over Concordia-Wisconsin yesterday, Cal Lutheran (26-4) continues NCAA Tournament action later today in the St. Paul, Minnesota Regional Semifinal against Gustavus Adolphus (24-7) at 2:30 p.m. (PST).
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, currently No. 3 in the nation, had three selections in Nicole Kerkhof, Shelbi Stein and Mikena Werner. It is the second All-Region honor for Kerkhof and the first for both Stein and Werner.
CMS takes on Colorado College in the first round in an eight-team regional hosted by UT Dallas at 1 p.m. (PST) today, Friday, November 11 at UT Dallas' Activity Center.
Kelsi Robinson of the University of La Verne volleyball team has been named to the 2016 AVCA All-West Region Team and teammate Tiffany Mancuso was tabbed Honorable Mention. Robinson, the 2016 SCIAC Volleyball Athlete of the Year, enjoys the All-Region selection for the second time while it is Mancuso's first.
The duo and the Leopards will take on No. 7 Southwestern (Texas) today at 10:30 a.m. PST in the first round of the NCAA Championship tournament.
