SCIAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field All-Conference Honors Announced

The 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) women's outdoor track & field teams were announced Tuesday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches. All-conference honors in each event went to the top three finishers at the 2019 SCIAC Championships.

Jessica Fields of Redlands was voted the 2019 SCIAC Track Athlete of the Year after winning the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles for the second consecutive season. Fields earned a time of 14.10 in the 100-meter event, and set a new SCIAC meet and SCIAC Division III record in the 400-meter event.

Occidental's Sabrina Degnan was voted the 2019 SCIAC Field Athlete of the Year. Degnan won the hammer throw with a toss of 169-00, and the javelin throw with a mark of 129-05. She also finished second in the shot put with a heave of 38-08.75. Degnan placed second in the hammer and third in the shot put a year ago in addition to notching a win in the javelin.

SCIAC Newcomer of the Year accolades went to Pomona-Pitzer first-year Quin Fraley. Fraley finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.59 and ran the anchor leg of the Sagehens' 4x400-meter relay that clocked a time of 4:044.04 to finish second in the race.

The Jennifer Stary Award went to Kelsey Rouse of California Lutheran. Kelsey has been a top student-athlete throughout her four years at Cal Lutheran. She is currently ranked in the program's Top 10 All Time in five events: 100-meter hurdles (4th All Time), high jump (6th All Time), long jump (6th All Time), 4x100m Relay (8th All Time) and heptathlon (2nd All Time). She has also earned All-SCIAC Honors twice and has qualified for nationals once in 2018 in the heptathlon. On top of all her athletic accomplishments Kelsey has maintained a 3.6 GPA in her Marketing/Communications major and has been a three-time member of the Cal Lutheran Scholar-Athlete Society. Kelsey has been a team leader throughout her time at CLU and is currently serving as one of the Regals' team captains. She is a very supportive teammate, shows great sportsmanship to her competitors, and is always working her hardest to maximize her abilities as a student-athlete and set an example for her teammates.

For the third straight season, head coach Glenn Stewart and the Athenas' coaching staff earned SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors. After securing seven dual-meet points, CMS notched 150 points at the two-day 2019 SCIAC Championships to secure the conference title for the second straight season.
