The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team captured the 2017 SCIAC Championship after a dominant performance on day two of the meet. The Athenas already posted a clean slate in the multi-duals picking up eight points heading into the championship. By virtue of their first place finish at the Championships the Athenas picked up another 24 points to claim the SCIAC Championship.
CMS finished the championship with 222 points total. Redlands edged out Occidental for second with 135 points to 134.50. Pomona-Pitzer came in fourth at 112 while La Verne took fifth with 75. Cal Lutheran was sixth with 59.50 while Whittier was seventh with 34 points. Chapman (5) and Caltech (2) rounded out the teams.
In the 100 meter dash Tyra Abraham of CMS repeated as champion crossing the line in 11.91 Alison Smith from Redlands finished second at 12.20 while Emma Yudelevitch from Occidental came in third with a time of 12.33. Abraham doubled up on the day also taking the top spot in the 200 meter dash with atime of 24.80. Yudelevitch came in second with a time of 24.90. Chyenne Kimble of Redlands clocked in at 25.61
In the 400 meter run Catherine Banobi from Pomona-Pitzer took first with a time of 57.13. Carmen Mejia a senior from CMS took second with a time of 57.32 while Carmen Sandoval from La Verne took third with a time of 58.99.
In the 800 meter run Mejia took first with a time of 2:12.86 while Anahy Covarrubias from Whittier took second crossing the line at 2:15.33. Kaylee Jorgensen from Redlands finished third with a time of 2:17.25.
In the 1500 meter run Maya Weigel from Pomona-Pitzer continued her dominance and finished first with a time of 4:22.83. Bryn McKillop from CMS took second with a time of 4:27.33. Julissa Tobias from Whittier took third clocking in at 4:34.78.
In the 5000 meter run Roxanne Valle from Occidental took first with a time of 17:59.06. Lauren Hamilton from Pomona-Pitzer took second crossing the line at 18:02.01. Melissa Cerrillos from La Verne took third at 18:06.03.
Alison Smith a senior from Redlands crossed the finish line first in the 100 meter hurdles at 14.2 while Jessica Fields also from Redlands finished second with a time of 14.83. Catalina Lee Kim from La Verne finished third with a time of 14.85.
In the 400 meter hurdles Isabelle Dunne from Occidental crossed first at 64.19. Field finished second with a time of 64.70 while Sophie Richards from Pomona-Pitzer came in third with a time of 65.13.
The Athenas took first in the 4x100 meter relay while La Verne took second and Cal Lutheran third. CMS also took first in the 4x400 meter relay while Occidental took second and Redlands took third.
In the triple jump Kim from La Verne took first with a score of 36-11.50. Liz Lee from CMS took second with a 36-10.50 while Prisca Diala came in third at 36-10.25. In the shot put Vaiva Palunas from CMS returned to the top of the podium with a mark of 45-09.75. Reyna Ta'amu from Redlands took second with 41-10.25 while Emily Bassett from CMS finished with with a 41-08.50.
Sabrina Deegan from Occidental took first in the javelin with a mark of 147-00. Jessica Finn from Pomona-Pitzer took third with a 140-01 while Alison Smith from Redlands came in third with tossing a 119-07.
