The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women's tennis team posted a 5-1 victory over Carnegie Mellon in quarterfinal action of the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships at the Markin Center in Kalamazoo, Mich. on Monday.
With the win, the defending national champion Athenas improve to 26-1 on the season and will take on Middlebury (19-2) in semifinal action on Tuesday, May 21 at 8 a.m. PDT.
In doubles, CMS jumped out to a 3-0 lead as the duo of Catherine Allen and Caroline Cox earned an 8-3 win over Danna Taylor and Melissa Strome at No. 1 doubles, while Sarah Bahsoun and Nicole Tan defeated Courtney Ollis and Vinaya Rao, 8-5 on the No. 2 court. In No. 3 doubles, Sydney Lee and Madison Shea won, 8-3 over Jamie Vizelman and Janabelle Wu.
Carnegie Mellon earned a point at No. 2 singles as Vizelman won 6-0, 6-1 against Tan. Allen defeated Taylor, 6-4, 6-3 in No. 1 singles, and Lee knocked off Wu at No. 4 singles to lift the Athenas to the 5-1 victory.
