The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) had two teams advance on Saturday as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) downed Texas-Dallas, 6-0, while Pomona-Pitzer earned a 5-1 victory over Trinity (Texas) at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center in Claremont, Calif.
With the win No. 2 CMS improves to 24-1 overall, while No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer improves to 16-5. The two teams will meet Sunday at 12 p.m.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) def. Texas-Dallas, 6-0
In doubles action Sarah Bahsoun and Nicole Tan powered to an 8-1 victory over Sumvruta Iyengar and Frida Muedsam on court two, while Catherine Allen and Caroline Cox dispatched Sindhu Ravula and Kathy Joseph, 8-1 in No. 1 doubles. The No. 3 tandem of Sydney Lee and Madison Shea topped Svaksha Iyengar and Stephanie Joseph, 8-3.
In singles action Lee bested Sophie Farmer, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles while Bahsoun earned a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ravula in No. 5 singles to clinch the victory. Finishing alongside Bahsoun was Rebecca Berger who beat Muedsam, 6-2, 6-0 on the No. 3 court.
Pomona-Pitzer def. Trinity (Texas), 5-1
In doubles, Pomona-Pitzer edged Trinity, 2-1 as Caroline Casper and Jay Kim teammed up to defeat Andrea De Leon and Francesca Canjar, 8-4 in No. 3 doubles. Margherita Andreassi and Rebecca Salaway fell to Caroline Kutach and Megan Flore at No. 2 doubles, 8-3 before Maria Lyven and Arianna Chen narrowly defeated Mary and Soe Kaffen, 8-7(3) on the second court.
In singles action, Lyven won the No. 2 court, 6-0, 6-0 over Ashley DeBauge, before Jacinta Chen bested De Leon, 6-4, 7-6 in No. 4 singles. Casper then battled to a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles to clinch the match.
