SCIAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors Announced

SCIAC Women's Tennis All-Conference Honors Announced

The 2018 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) women's tennis teams were announced Friday following a vote conducted by the league's member head coaches.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' (CMS) Catherine Allen was voted the SCIAC Athlete of the Year and a First Team All-Conference selection after notching first team all-conference praise following her debut campaign in 2017. Allen - the ITA Division III West Regional champion - registered a 20-5 overall record in singles play, and a 19-3 mark in doubles action this season. Playing at both No. 1 and No. 2 singles and doubles in 2018, Allen helped guide the third-ranked Athenas to a 22-2 overall record, and a 7-0 conference mark en route to securing the top seed in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament.

Alisa Ogranovich of Chapman was voted the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year after completing a stellar first-year season. Ogranovich collected an overall singles ledger of 15-7, including a 7-4 mark at No. 1 singles. The Orange, Calif. native finished as the runner-up in singles play at the Ojai Valley Tournament. Ogranovich also posted a 10-8 record playing primarily No. 2 doubles for the Panthers in 2018.

Chapman head coach Will Marino and his coaching earned SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year praise after the Panthers finished the regular season 10-8 overall, 4-3 in SCIAC play. Marino directed Chapman to the third seed in the upcoming conference tournament as the Panthers are making their first appearance in the SCIAC postseason for the first time in three years.

The Chapman women's tennis team was also voted the SCIAC Sportsmanship Team following the 2017-18 campaign for the first time in program history.
