In a change of format because of the anticipated weather on Saturday and Sunday, all first round matches of the Women's SCIAC Tennis Championships were played to decision.
The top seeds took care of business all winning in routine fashion. No. 1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defeated Chapman 5-0, while No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer defeated Whittier by the same score. No. 3 Redlands won 5-0 over Redlands while No. 4 Caltech surrendered one match in a 5-1 win over Cal Lutheran.
The Athenas swept doubles as Catherine Allen and Katie Kousman won 8-0 as did the No. 2 team of Kyla Scott and Madison Shea. Chapman defaulted the No. 3 doubles position. Redlands also swept doubles to set up the 5-0 win as Emily Murnin and Jackie Lacy won 8-1 at the No. 2 position. Kate Dolan and Claire Bohoskey won 8-0 at the three slot while Sarah Ikioka and Elizabeth Johnson won 8-1 at No. 1.
Caltech took two of three doubles as Julia Reisier and Angelica Zhou won 8-2 at the top spot for the Beavers. Gianna Cupo and Sarah Seeman grabbed the lone point for the Regals with a 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Alexandra Bodrova and Sophia Chen won 8-6 for Caltech at the third position. The Beavers swept 4-6 singles to clinch the match 5-1.
With the forecasted weather play will begin at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow with both semifinals matches to be played at the same time. No. 1 CMS will take on No. 4 Caltech while No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer will faceoff against host Redlands. The backdraw matches will begin as soon as the semifinals are over with the championship match to start at approximately 12:30 p.m. after adequate rest and available courts.
