CMS and Pomona-Pitzer Ready for Women's Tennis NCAA Play

Pomona-Pitzer and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis teams will open NCAA play on Saturday, May 13 in the second round of NCAA play after each receiving a bye. 

Pomona-Pitzer, currently ranked fifth in the nation, will square off against Trinity (Tx) at 2 p.m. Trinity (17-7) earned a berth to the NCAA Tournament with the 5-0 victory over Southwestern (TX) for their sixth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. The Tigers have just four losses to Division III opponents this season including CMS in late February. The SCIAC Athlete of the Year Caroline Casper will hold down the top singles spot for the Sagehens while Emily Chen and Maryann Zhao are the top doubles team and ranked No. 2 in the region. 

CMS plays the winner of East Texas Baptist University and Whitman on Saturday at 10 a.m. CMS (26-0) enters with the only unblemished record in the region after the tight 5-4 win over Pomona-Pitzer for the program's 19th SCIAC Championship. The Athenas make up three of the top five singles players and two of the top three doubles teams in the region. Nicole Tan and Lindsay Brown are unbeaten by DIII opponents this spring while Catherine Allen and Katie Kousman have just one loss. Singles play is highlighted by Tan, Allen and Kyla Scott
