> Occidental Recap

The Occidental women's soccer team fell to Trinity (Texas), 1-0 in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championship Saturday on the campus of pod host Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Texas.

With the loss, Occidental's historic season - which saw the Tigers advance to the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament - comes to an end with an overall record of 10-3-5.

Occidental and Trinity played a back-and-forth contest that saw the game's lone goal find the back of the net in the 52nd minute. After 45 minutes of scoreless action that saw the Tigers of Trinity hold a slight edge in shots (7-5), Trinity's Chelsea Cole broke the deadlock at the 51:47 mark on a feed from Halleanne Dure to make it 1-0. Occidental Tigers goalkeeper Sydney Tomlinson, who had turned away four attempts on goal in the first half, could not keep Trinity out on the team's fifth shot on target.

Occidental threatened to level the game with three second half opportunities beginning with Grace Hildner's effort in the 58th minute. Layla Devlin added a shot on frame less than 10 minutes later, while Katherine Kim provided a late attempt in the 82nd minute, but Paige Wallace was equal to it, preserving the shutout for Trinity.
