CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 18 Pomona-Pitzer Women's Soccer team advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament after a dominant 6-0 performance over rival Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Sunday afternoon at the Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Field.
The win marks the first time in program history that a Pomona-Pitzer team advances to the round of 16. Earning an at-large berth into the tournament the Sagehens notched a 5-2 win over UC Santa Cruz in their first match of the tournament. As the host, Pomona-Pitzer (16-1-3) had an incredible offensive performance as a team in the second round match as six different players scored a goal in the win over the Athenas. Senior goalkeeper Corey Goelz posted her ninth shutout of the season as she tallied five saves in the win advancing Sagehens.
Pomona-Pitzer will face Wisconsin-Whitewater at a date and location to be determined.
