NCAA Women's Lacrosse Round 2 Recap

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) used a three-goal effort from Alex Futterman, but Amherst scored eight goals in the second half to help the Mammoths pull away to a 14-8 victory over the Athenas in NCAA Division III Championship second round play at Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium in Amherst, Mass. 

With the loss, CMS concludes its season, 16-3 overall, while Amherst advances with a 13-5 record on the season. 

In a back-and-forth first 30 minutes, Amherst held a 6-5 edge at intermission thanks to a pair of goals from both Becky Kendall and Isabelle Sennett. Futterman added two scores for CMS, while Corie Hack, Sammie Cohen and Sally Abel added one each for the Athenas. 

Early in the second frame, the sides exchanged two goals each to make it 8-7 in favor of the Mammoths with 22:41 to play before Amherst netted six straight markers to make it 14-7 with 4:44 to play in the contest. Sennett and Dani DiTomasso fired in two each during the run before Futterman scored the final goal of the contest. 

CMS goalie Anna Gillespie turned away 10 shots in the losing effort for the Athenas.
