Claremont, Ca - Top seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the SCIAC women's lacrosse postseason tournament on Saturday evening defeating Chapman 18-9.
It was a close contest in the first half as Emily Cohen put the Athenas on the board before Stacey Zuppa would tie it up for the Panthers. Cohen would another one in the half to help the Athenas take a 7-4 lead into the locker room.
CMS would continue to play tough defense in the second half only surrendering five more goals as Danielle Zahn lead Chapman with three goals and Zuppa two. Zuppa also chipped in with two assists.
The Athenas offense would come alive scoring 11 goals in the second half to pull away in the championship. Cohen ended the game with five goals while Corie Hack chipped in with four goals and an assist. The Athenas defense only allowed thirteen shots on goal.
Without a conference automatic qualifier the Athenas and Panthers will await their fate to get invited to the NCAA Championship with either a Pool B or Pool C bid. The selection show with air at 6:30 p.m and can be viewed HERE.
