SCIAC Women's Golf All-Conference Honors Announced

The 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Women's Golf honors were announced Tuesday, following a vote by the league's member head coaches. 

Voted the 2019 SCIAC Athlete and Newcomer of the Year, Kendall Nicholson of Redlands turned in a tremendous debut campaign. Nicholson was the overall leader during the seven rounds of SCIAC play - SCIAC No. 1 and No. 2, and the SCIAC Championships. She finished the seven rounds with a 75.57 scoring average, highlighted by her fourth-place showing at the three-day championships with scores of 77, 78, and 76. Nicholson earned individual medalist honors at SCIAC No. 1, carding rounds of 77 and 74, before tying for second at SCIAC No. 2 with outputs of 75 and 72 helping Redlands secure second place overall in the 2018-19 team standings. 

Kelly Ransom of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) was named the SCIAC Sportsmanship Award winner and a 2019 first team all-conference selection. Ransom collected a three-day total of 233 (80-79-74) to help the Athenas clinch the program's sixth SCIAC Championship crown. Ransom also finished tied for runner-up honors at SCIAC No. 2 with rounds of 78 and 69, and tied for fourth at SCIAC No. 1 with scores of 77 and 80. 

Head coach Jodie Burton and the Athenas coaching staff garnered SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honors for the third straight season after leading CMS to its sixth conference championship crown. The Athenas clinched the SCIAC title by 35 strokes after registering combined totals of 627 and 587 during the four regular season rounds, and then logging impressive showings of 318, 303 and 294 at the three-day championship. CMS earned the SCIAC's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship May 14-17 at Bay Oaks Country Club in Houston, Texas. CMS is the defending national championshions of Division III.
