CMS Paces Field On Day One of SCIAC Championships

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women's golf team finished 15 strokes ahead of the pack following day one action of the 2018 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships hosted by Chapman at Los Serranos Golf Club in Chino Hills, Calif.

CMS collected a day one score of 299 over the first 18 holes and is 15 strokes ahead of second place Cal Lutheran which finished with a score of 314 on day one. Pomona-Pitzer is slotted third just four strokes behind the Regals (318), while Chapman is in fourth with a score of 323. Whittier is sitting in fifth place with a score of 327, while Redlands is in sixth (333). Occidental rounds out the seven team field with a day one mark of 339. 

All four of the Athenas' scoring golfers finished in the top 10 individually on day one, led by Margaret Loncki who carded a three-under-par 69 to lead the field of 46 golfers. Redlands' Caroline Ordian, Chapman's Caroline Lewis and CMS's Emma Kang tied for second with rounds of 76 each, while Mira Yoo and Kelly Ransom of CMS, and Hanna Pasco and Erica Mitchell of Cal Lutheran shot scores of 77 to place in a four-way tie for fifth. Gabrielle Herzig and Andi Chaloult of Pomona-Pitzer tied for ninth overall as each posted scores of 78 on Sunday. 

SCIAC Championship action resumes Monday morning with tee times beginning at 9 a.m.
