Chino Hills, Ca - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps captured its fourth Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's golf championship on Tuesday afternoon at Los Serranos Country Club. The Athenas shot a 921 (306-301-314) over the three days which was added to their SCIAC 1 & 2 totals for a 2192 over the seven rounds which count towards the conference championship. Redlands came in second with a 2227 after posting a 945 (323 - 314 - 308) in the final three rounds.
Pomona-Pitzer came in third with 2256 while Cal Lutheran finished fourth at 2305. Whittier rounded out the team scores in fifth with a 2331. La Verne, Occidental and Chapman had individuals compete but did not score as a team.
Emma Kang from CMS had the low score of the championship for the women shooting a 221 (75-74-72) taking the medalist honors. The defending 2016 NCAA Individual Champion Caroline Ordian from Redlands came in second carding a 224 (74-80-70) over the three days. Andi Chaloult of Pomona-Pitzer took third with a 225 (77-75-73). Ciara Clark from Whittier was named the Sportsmanship Award winner.
CMS will represent the SCIAC as the conference automatic qualifer at the Division III Championships May 9-12 in Houston, Tx. The conference will await to see if it receives any team or individual at-large bids.
