Chapman's Jaryn Fajardo, Caltech's Elizabeth Eiden, and Pomona-Pitzer's Carly Leong and Jill Pace represent the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) on the D3hoops.com All-West Region team as announced by the organization recently.
A D3hoops.com First Team All-West Region honoree, Fajardo was also tabbed the SCIAC Athlete of the Year and a First Team All-SCIAC selection following a tremendous 2018-19 season. Fajardo guided the Panthers to a 16-10 overall record that was keyed by an 11-5 mark in league action en route to locking in the third seed in the conference postseason tournament. Fajardo averaged 17.3 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per contest and scored in double digits in all 26 games she played in. Fajardo twice hit the 30-point mark in a game including a 96-87 loss to Puget Sound (Dec. 20) and then again in a 90-83 loss to Pomona-Pitzer on Feb. 2.
Eiden was also named a First Team All-SCIAC recipient and subsequently earned Third Team All-West Region honors. Eiden averaged 16.3 points per game and 10.8 rebounds per outing, scoring a single-game high 26 points in a 90-61 win over St. Katherine, while hauling in an impressive 20 rebounds in a 72-61 victory over LIFE Pacific.
Leong, the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year, was also voted the West Region Rookie of the Year following a stellar debut campaign for Pomona-Pitzer. Leong averaged 16.0 points and 3.4 boards per game in 2018-19, helping the Sagehens log a 22-6 overall ledger, a 14-2 mark in SCIAC play, the second seed in the conference postseason tournament, and the program's first-ever league tournament title.
Pace - the 2019 SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year honoree - added West Region Coach of the Year accolades to her resume following a superb campaign. Pace guided Pomona-Pitzer to its first SCIAC Postseason Tournament appearance and led the squad to a semifinal win over Chapman, and a title game victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) en route to securing the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship.
