The Pomona-Pitzer women's basketball team fell to No. 13 Wisconsin-Oshkosh, 72-46 in Saturday evening's NCAA Division III Championship first round tilt on the compus of pod-host Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
With the loss, Pomona-Pitzer concludes its season 22-6 overall, while Wisconsin-Oshkosh improves to 25-3 overall and will advance to the NCAA Second Round on Saturday, March 2.
The first quarter featured a back-and-forth battle between the teams as Pomona-Pitzer held a slim, 19-18 advantage after 10 minutes of play. Carly Leong (eight points) of the Sagehens, and Isabella Samuels (10 points) of Wisconsin-Oshkosh led their respective teams on the offensive side of the floor as both teams shot above 50% from the field. In the second quarter, Pomona-Pitzer was outscored, 10-4 as the hosts held a 28-23 lead at intermission.
Second half action saw Wisconsin-Oshkosh notch 22 points in both the third and fourth quarters en route to the 72-46 victory. The Sagehens were limited to just nine points in the final 10 minutes of play.
Leong finished with a team-best 15 points in the losing effort, while Cameron Edward and Amara Chidom followed with seven and six points. Kamil English finished with five points and five rebounds off the bench for Pomona-Pitzer, while Edward totaled six boards.
