California Lutheran softball student-athlete Kendall Marinesi was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-District First Team, presented by CoSIDA. The award recognizes the top student-athletes in the nation for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
The native of Santee, Calif., carries a 3.95 grade point average (GPA) while pursuing a major in interdisciplinary education studies. With earning a spot on the Academic All-District Team, Marinesi advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot which will be announced on June 6.
This year, Marinesi led the Regals in almost all offensive categories with 12 home runs, 48 hits, 12 doubles, four triples, 39 RBI and 39 runs. She also had the best batting average (.417), on base percentage (.507) and slugging percentage (.904). In the nation, she ranks sixth in home runs per game (0.34), eighth in slugging, 13th in home runs and 18th in total bases (103). Defensively, at third base, she has a fielding percentage of .959 with 36 putouts and 104 assists.
Marinesi was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week back in March as she compiled an impressive stat line of five homers, four doubles, two triples, 18 RBI, while batting .565, during the six-game stretch. To close out the regular season, she was named to the All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) First Team and was the Character Award winner.
Last year, she was named NFCA All-Region Third Team and All-SCIAC First Team on top of the CoSIDA Academic All-District nod.
The Google Cloud Academic All-District teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions – Division I, Division II, Division III and NAIA.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form. An athlete must also have completed one full calendar year at their institution and reached sophomore athletic eligibility.
