La Verne Softball Exits NCAA Tournament

Making its first NCAA Championship tournament since 2010, the La Verne softball team fell to No. 4 Texas-Tyler 9-0 loss in the opening game of the 2017 NCAA Texas-Tyler Regional at Suddenlink Field.

The Leopards managed just one hit, a double off the bat of Haley Gomez in the fifth inning.

La Verne returned to the field to face No. 5 Texas Lutheran in an elimination and ultimately fell 7-3 to conclude their 2017 NCAA tournament. The Leopards made their first appearance since 2010 ending the season with a 31-14 overall record.

Senior SCIAC Athlete of the Year Alexis Schiff, the nation's second-leading home run hitter, didn't leave Texas without leaving her mark as she deposited a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to tie the game at 3-3. Texas Lutheran would put up four in the bottom of the inning to regain the lead they would never relinquish.
