Whittier men's cross country runner Benjamin White was named the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Cross Country Division III Athlete of the Week as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
White, the reigning Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, secured his place in the national spotlight following a terrific performance at the Titan Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton. White was the top NCAA Division III athlete to cross the finish line, clocking a time of 24:47.6 on the 8-kilometer course setting a new personal record in the process. He finished sixth overall as the Poets earned their first ever national cross country weekly honor. The La Habra Heights, Calif. native collected three SCIAC weekly accolades during the 2018 season.
