The CMS men barely edged out Occidental 175.50 to 174 to claim the 2017 SCIAC Men's Track and Field Championship. Both the Stags and Tigers entered the championship with seven points from the multi-duals and with the win at the championship the Stags earned 24 points while the Tigers took home 21 for second place.
La Verne took third at the championships with 115 points while Pomona-Pitzer was a close second at 113. Redlands was fifth with 98 while Cal Lutheran finished sixth with 46. Whittier came in seventh with 35.50 while Chapman (13) and Caltech (7) rounded out the teams.
In the 100 meter dash Hugh Pegan from Occidental took first with a time of 10.77 while Myles Speegle from Redlands came in second at 10.81. Occidental freshman Keane Collins finished third with a time of 10.97. Pegan returned to the top of the podium in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.35. Jeh Johnson from Occidental finished second at 21.57 while Joshua Francis from La Verne finished third at 21.63.
In the 400 meter dash Gabriel Barrett-Jackson from Occidental finished first with a time of 48.125. Jeh Johnson came in second with a time of 48.130. Francis took third with a time of 48.26.
In the 800 meter run Josh Sealand from CMS finished first with a time of 1:49.90. Paul Messana from Pomona-Pitzer finished second with a time of 1:51.53 while Timmy Kahovec finished in third with a time of 1:52.25. Sealand top the podium in the 1500 meter run with a time of 3:54.61. Ben Iten and Thomas D'Anieri both from CMS took second and third with times of 3:56.19 and 3:56.20 respectively.
In the 5000 meter run Andy Reischling from Pomona-Pitzer crossed first with a time of 14:51.95. Julian Sandoval from Whittier finished in second at 15:00.39 while Sealand again made a trip to the podium in third at 15:04.19.
In the 110 meter hurdles Afari La-Anyane finished in first with a time of 15.26 while Cal Neikirk from Pomona-Pitzer finished second at 15.75. Austin DeWitz finished in third at 16.06.
In the 400 meter hurdles Nick Burchett from Redlands crossed the line first at 53.44 while Andrew McCall finished second with a time of 55.00. Jesus Payan from La Verne finished in third at 55.43.
Occidental took first in the 4x100 relay while Redlands finished in second and CMS third. In the 4x400 relay Occidental returned to the top of the podium as CMS finshed in second and La Verne third.
Walker Quinn from CMS took first in the pole vault with a mark of 14-09.50. Zach Greenleaf from Occidental took second at 14-05.50 while Zane Bodenbender from CMS took third with a 14-05.50.
Cam Van from CMS took first in the triple jump with a mark of 40-03.50. Wyatt Pannabecker from Redlands took third at 46-02.50 while Dillon Brown from Cal Lutheran came in third with a 46-00.75.
In the shot put TJ Randall took first with a throw of 51-01.00. Chris Gura also from La Verne took second with a 48-09.50 while Sam Yeager from Redlands took third at 46-03.25. Calvin Aylward f Pomona-Pitzer took the top spot in the javelin at 209-09. Jesus Payan came in second with a 173-01 while Michael Burciaga-Ellis from La Verne finished in third with a 170-00.
