CMS Slotted First in 2019 SCIAC Men's Tennis Preseason Poll

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) men's tennis team was unanimously selected to finish first in the 2019 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Men's Tennis Preseason Poll as voted on by the league's member head coaches.

CMS notched eight first place votes and 64 points and was slated to finish first in the 2019 SCIAC Preseason Poll. The Stags posted a sensational 30-4 record in 2018 and finished a perfect 9-0 in conference play, en route to the top seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament, and culminating with a tournament title. After receiving the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Championship and a first round bye, CMS downed UC Santa Cruz (5-1) and Trinity (Texas) (5-1), before falling to Chicago, 5-2 in the NCAA Quarterfinals.

After earning the second seed in the conference postseason tournament a year ago, Pomona-Pitzer was tabbed to finish second in the league in 2019. The Sagehens received 53 points in the preseason voting after posting a 16-9 overall ledger, and a 6-2 mark in SCIAC play last season. After besting Caltech in the semifinals of the conference tournament, Pomona-Pitzer fell to CMS in the title match.

Caltech was voted to finish third in 2019 after finishing there a year ago. The Beavers, which secured 45 points to edge fourth-slotted Redlands (44 points), posted an 11-7 overall mark in 2018 and a 5-2 record in SCIAC play. Caltech fell to Pomona-Pitzer, 5-1 in the SCIAC Semifinals. The Bulldogs, 11-7, 4-3 SCIAC in 2018, missed the league tournament.

Last season's SCIAC Tournament fourth seed California Lutheran was tabbed to finish fifth after receiving 29 points in the voting. The Kingsmen tallied a 5-14 ledger a year ago, highlighted by a 3-5 mark in conference action, and fell, 5-0 to the Stags in the SCIAC tournament semifinals.

Finishing in sixth, seventh, and eighth were Whittier, Occidental and Chapman, after the trio finished in that order in the 2018 standings.
