Claremont, CA - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team punched its ticket to the elite 8 after wins over Texas-Tyler and Trinity in NCAA second and third round action.
On Friday the Stags faced UT-Tyler and defeated the Patriots 5-1. Jake Berber and Glenn Hull won at No. 2 doubles 8-4 while Jake Williams and Julian Gordy won 8-1 at No. 3. Daniel Morkovine and Niko Parodi lost at No. 1 doubles 8-4. Parodi, Hull and Max Macey all won in singles to clinch the win for the Stags.
On Saturday the Stags squared off against No. 13 Trinity (Tx) and came away with a 5-0 win. The Stags swept doubles as Parodi and Morkovine won 8-5, Berber and Hull 8-3 and Gordy and Williams 8-2. Parodi and Hull clinched the match with singles victories.
The team championships now move to Chattanooga, TN as the Chattanooga Sports Commission will host the team championship finals, which will be held May 22-27 at The Champions Tennis Club in Chattanooga, Tennessee. CMS will face the winner of Wesleyan (Conn.) and Johns Hopkins.
