The Pomona-Pitzer men's swimming & diving team was selected to finish first in the 2018-19 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Preseason Poll as voted on by member head coaches.
Pomona-Pitzer received eight first place votes and one second place nod en route to 80 points in the conference preseason ranking. The Sagehens posted a 7-1 record in dual meets during the 2017-18 season, before cruising to 1086.5 points in the four-day SCIAC Championships to capture first place in the league standings. The title was the first for the Pomona-Pitzer men's program.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) notched 64 points with eight second place votes and a first place vote after finishing the 2017-18 campaign with an 8-0 dual meet record and 998 points at the SCIAC Championships.
Redlands is slated to finish third after gliding to a 4-4 dual meet record, 502 points at the league championships, and a fourth place finish in the standings last year. California Lutheran and Occidental each tabbed 48 points in this year's preseason poll after finishing 5-3 and 6-2 respectively in dual meets last season. The Kingsmen posted 574 points and secured third place in the standings, while the Tigers finished fifth overall after logging 447.5 points over the four-day championships.
Voted to finish sixth is Chapman (35 points) after the Panthers totaled a 2-6 dual meet mark and 323 points at the SCIAC Championships. Caltech finished just ahead of Chapman last year with a 3-5 record in dual meets and 420 points. The Beavers are slotted to finish seventh with 33 points in the 2018-19 preseason poll.
Rounding out this year's preseason poll is Whittier (20 points) and La Verne (11 points). The Poets were 1-7 a year ago in dual meets and notched 175 points at the conference championships, while the Leopards were 0-8 in dual meet action and registered 143 points at the SCIAC meet.
Cal Lutheran, Occidental and Whittier begin the 2018-19 season at the two-day Malibu Invitational at Pepperdine on Friday, Oct. 12.
