United Soccer Coaches All-Region Release

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) recently had 12 men's soccer student-athletes garner All-West Region honors by United Soccer Coaches as recently announced by the organization.

Five players from the SCIAC graced the first team including four from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and one player from Redlands. Goalkeeper Eduardo De Anda, defenders William Birchard and Adam Singer, and forward Will Barton of the Stags earned first team all-region honors, while Bulldogs' forward Steve Acuna also secured a spot on the first team. Birchard earned his second straight first team all-region mention, while Singer was named to the second team a year ago.

CMS earned the top seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament after notching a 9-1-2 record in SCIAC play, and then secured the league tournament title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. Led by the 2019 SCIAC Athlete of the Year, Singer and Birchard anchored the Stags' backline all season, helping CMS post seven shutouts against league opponents and 12 total clean sheets during the 2019 campaign en route to First Team All-SCIAC honors. De Anda added a second team all-conference nod to the list as he finished with a 9-1-1 record and a .70 goals-against average. The Stags finished the historic season 16-4-2 overall, advancing to the NCAA Round of 16 with 2-0 wins over Texas Lutheran and Trinity (Texas) before falling to Centre in the third round.

Up front, Barton was second on the team in goals scored and points, as he finished with seven and 19 respectively. He was also tied for the team lead in assists with five. Also receiving First Team All-SCIAC praise was Acuna of Redlands who helped the Bulldogs to the second seed in the conference tournament and a spot in the tournament title match. Acuna logged six goals and seven assists for 19 points during the 2019 season as Redlands won four of five before falling to CMS in the SCIAC Tournament final.

Earning second team all-region accolades were defenders Riley McCabe (Occidental) and Peyton Menti (Redlands), and midfielders Samay Rahim (CMS) and Derrin Valeri (Redlands). Midfielders Collin ChubbFertal of Redlands and Adrian Paredes of Occidental, and forward Jovanni Garcia of La Verne were tabbed Third Team All-West Region by United Soccer Coaches.
