Stags Rally to Win 2017 Men's Golf SCIAC Championship

Chino Hills, Ca - Trailing by four strokes entering the final day of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference the defending 2016 NCAA Division III Champions Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's golf team shot an unbelievable 281 to claim the SCIAC Championship by ten strokes with a 2063. The Stags shot an impressive 871 (299-291-281) at the three day SCIAC Championship which is added to SCIAC 1 & 2 to determine the conference champion. 

La Verne took second with a seven round total of 2073. The Leopards carded an 889 (295-299-295) over the three days. Redlands finished in third overall but in second at the SCIAC Championship with a 882 (295-299-288) for the three rounds and a 2086 over the seven rounds. Occidental finished fourth with 2117 while Cal Lutheran and Pomona-Pitzer tied at 2020. Chapman finished in seventh with a 2132 while Whittier rounded out the teams in eighth with a 2169. 

Nate Gray from Cal Lutheran and Jonathan Shaw of CMS both made incredible puts on the 18th hole to tie for medalist honors for the three day event at even par. Each carded a 216 with Gray shooting a 70-74-72 and Shaw a 73-71-72. Alex Stroes of Redlands finished third with a 217 (73-74-70). Brian Wise from Chapman was named the Jesse Clark Sportsmanship recipient. 

CMS will represent the SCIAC as the automatic qualifer at the NCAA Division III championships May 16-19 at Howey-in-the-Hills, FL. The conference will await if it receives any team or individual at-large bids.
