NCAA Men's Basketball First Round Recap

The No. 11 Pomona-Pitzer men's basketball team delivered a 58-37 victory over Texas-Dallas in Friday evening's NCAA Division III Championship First Round contest in Walla Walla, Wash. 

With the win, Pomona-Pitzer improves to 26-2 overall and will take on the winner of No. 2 Whitman and Texas Lutheran on Saturday, March 2. Texas-Dallas concludes its season 24-5 overall. 

The Sagehens, who have now won 22 of their last 23 games, had three starters score in double figures, including Micah Elan who notched a team-high 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Corbin Koch and Daniel Rosenbaum followed with 12 points and 10 points respectively, while James Kelbert added nine points off the bench. Koch and Rosenbaum handed out four assists each, Rosenbaum added eidght boards in the winning effort. 

Pomona-Pitzer held a 30-16 advantage after one half of play, shooting 37.5% from the field, and 41.7% from three-point range as Koch led the way with 10 points for the Sagehens. Pomona-Pitzer's tight defense also held Texas-Dallas to just 21.2% shooting from the floor, and a mere 16.7% from beyond-the-arc as the Comets were just 2-for-12 from long distance. 

In the second half, Pomona-Pitzer continued to pull away, shooting 39.3% overall, led by an eight-point effort from Elan. Texas-Dallas's Hans Burwitz netted nine points in the second stanza, but it was not enough as the Sagehens were able to see out their 21-point victory.
