Michael Scarlett of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) and Austin DeWitz of Occidental received D3hoops.com All-West Region recognition as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
On the heels of being named all-district by the NABC, Scarlett was also named First Team All-West Region by D3hoops.com. A back-to-back Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) David Wells Player of the Year, Scarlett led the Stags to an overall record of 20-8, and a 15-1 mark in conference play in 2017-18. Scarlett paced CMS averaging 19.7 points per game as the Stags won their sixth league tournament title, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship for the second straight year. Scarlett scored 20-plus points in 10 games this season, including a 32-point effort in a home win over Pomona-Pitzer (Feb. 7), while netting 31 in his team's thrilling, 83-82 win over No. 2 Whitworth in the NCAA First Round.
DeWitz was named Third Team All-West Region by D3hoops.com after pacing Occidental to a 19-7 overall ledger with a 12-4 mark in SCIAC play and garnered the second seed in the conference tournament. DeWitz - a First Team All-SCIAC selection in February - was second on team in scoring averaging 16.7 points per game, while averaging a team-high 9.3 boards per contest for the Tigers. DeWitz was also one of Occidental's leaders in distribution, dishing out 3.0 assists per game. In 24 games in 2017-18, DeWitz scored in double figures, and netted a season-high 26 points three times (Jan. 24 at Cal Lutheran; Jan. 27 vs. La Verne; and Feb. 20 vs. Redlands).
