The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) had two football players garner D3football.com Team of the Week honors as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) sophomore defensive back Benjamin Cooney and Chapman's junior linebacker Dillon Keefe earned the distinction following week one of the 2019 season.
In a tough, 21-17 loss to Puget Sound, Cooney had six pass breakups, and an interception return for a touchdown to highlight the Stags' defensive efforts. He also registered seven solo tackles for CMS on opening day.
Keefe, the reigning SCIAC Football Defensive Athlete of the Week, notched six tackles, including three for a loss of a combined 20 yards. Of the three tackles for a loss, two were quarterback sacks. He also had two QB hurries, forced a fumble, and blocked a fourth quarter punt in the 45-14 win over Pacific (Ore.) on opening day.
