The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) football team is set to begin play in the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) representative beginning Saturday, November 17 at the Whitworth Pine Bown in Spokane, Wash.
CMS, which enters national postseason play as the SCIAC Co-Champion, received the league's automatic qualifier to the tournament after posting a 20-10 victory over co-champion Redlands during the regular season. The Stags will take on Whitworth at 12 p.m. on Nov. 17 in NCAA First Round play. The winner of Saturday's first round matchup will take on the winner of St. John's (Minn.) and Martin Luther on Friday, Nov. 23 at a location to be determined.
After dropping two of its first three games to begin the 2018 season, CMS (7-3, 6-1 SCIAC) opened conference play on September 29 with a 37-24 victory over La Verne to begin a run of six games unbeaten in league action. The Stags powered to a 17-10 victory over California Lutheran (Oct. 6), a 20-10 win over Redlands (Oct. 13), a 27-7 win at Occidental (Oct. 20), a 34-21 win over Whittier (Oct. 27), and a 16-9 victory over Chapman on Nov. 3. CMS then fell 24-19 to Pomona-Pitzer in Saturday's regular season finale.
