Several Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) baseball student-athletes earned American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Region and All-American recognition as recently announced by the organization.
The American Baseball Coaches Association released the 2018 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-America teams on Thursday evening. The honorees were announced at the opening ceremonies of the NCAA Div. III College World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin.
ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first-team selections , which were announced on Tuesday, were nominated for All-America honors. In all divisions, the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Teams will be announced on Wednesday, June 20. The ABCA National Pitchers of the Year for all divisions will be announced on Monday, June 25, followed by the ABCA National Players of the Year on Wednesday, June 27.
The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.
After earning First Team All-West Region honors by the ABCA, Redlands' Brendan Gardiner, and Aaron Singh each earned ABCAC Second Team All-American praise.
Gardiner, who was also named the ABCA West Region Position Player of the Year and a First Team All-West Region honoree by D3baseball.com, earned First Team All-SCIAC praise and was also tabbed the SCIAC Athlete of the Year after helping Redlands to a 19-5 conference record, a share of first place in the conference standings, and the second seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. Gardiner hit .405 with 70 hits, 17 doubles, four triples, four homers and 45 RBI and also crossed the plate 57 times.
Singh was also named a First Team All-West Region by D3baseball.com and a First Team All-SCIAC selection in 2018 following a stellar regular season that saw the junior shortstop hit .355 with 61 hits, 21 doubles, five triples, three homers and 33 RBI in addition to scoring 48 runs for the Bulldogs.
Also earning First Team All-West Region honors from the ABCA were Rainier Aguilar, Will Hall, and Adam Stead of Redlands, and Jakob Thomas of La Verne.
Stead was named the 2018 SCIAC Pitcher of the Year and a First Team All-SCIAC honoree, while Aguilar was a First Team All-SCIAC selection in 2018. Hall was tabbed a second team all-conference, while Thomas was named First Team All-SCIAC for the Leopards.
Chapman's Gavin Blodgett and Tyler Peck, and La Verne's Nicholas Michaels earned Second Team All-West Region praise by the ABCA. Adam Santa Cruz and Christopher Peres of La Verne, Matt Macey of Whittier, Nolan McCafferty and Brian Knapp of Pomona-Pitzer, CJ Novogradac of CMS, Matt Mogollon of Chapman, and Felix Minjarez of Redlands were voted to ABCA All-West Region third team.
