Two SCIAC Players Named to Preseason All-American

Occidental’s Devon DeRaad and Pomona-Pitzer’s Tanner Nishioka have been tabbed as a First
Team and Second Team Preseason All-Americans respectively as announced by

DeRaad, a senior, was named the 2016 SCIAC Athlete of the Year and helped Oxy to an
unprecedented season capturing a share of the SCIAC Championship while leading the Tigers to
a program-best 32 wins. The designated hitter from Scottsdale, Ariz., is coming off a season
where he earned ABCA All-American honors and was named First Team All-
American. He had an outstanding season finishing second in the nation in home runs (16), 10 th
in on base percentage (.541), fifth in slugging percentage (.842) and eighth in RBIs (57).

Nishioka is entering his senior season after being named All-American Honorable Mention, First
Team All-West Region and First Team All-SCIAC. The second baseman led his team in batting
average (.418), steals (10), home runs (7) and runs scored (48). The Honolulu native also
finished third in the SCIAC in batting average and second in home runs behind DeRaad.
