Cal Lutheran Baseball Headed to Texas for NCAA Regionals

Indianapolis, Ind. – Cal Lutheran has been selected to the West Regional bracket for the 2017 Division III Baseball Championships as The NCAA Division III Baseball Committee has announced the 56 teams that will compete in the tournament.  The Kingsmen are the #2 seed in the West Regional hosted by the University of Texas-Tyler and will open play on Thursday against #5 Concordia University Texas at 3 p.m. 

Cal Lutheran is looking to advance out of the regional after falling to UT-Tyler and Pacific Lutheran in the West Regional last year.  The Kingsmen punched their ticket to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the 2nd year in a row with a 3-2 win over Redlands University in the SCIAC postseason tournament championship game. The Kingsmen take a 31-10 overall record into Thursday's first round matchup with the Tornados.

Concordia University Texas sports a 28-16 mark this spring and advanced to the regional tournament by way of one of the thirteen at-large pool C bids. 
The complete West Regional field includes: #1 UT-Tyler, #2 Cal Lutheran, #3 Centenary, #4 Linfield, #5 Concordia Texas and #6 Rhodes. 
Six teams will compete at four regional sites and eight teams will compete at four regional sites. All regional tournaments will use a double-elimination format. Forty-one conference champions qualified automatically.
Winners of the eight regional tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisconsin, Friday-Tuesday/Wednesday, May 26- 30/31, 2017.
