Meet Phoebe Madsen - CMS Women's Volleyball

Name: Phoebe Madsen
College: Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS)
Year: Senior
Hometown: Santa Barbara, Calif.
High School: Laguna Blanca
Position: Setter
Major: Economics and Finance

Senior Phoebe Madsen was chosen the AVCA West Region Player of the Year as a junior last season, while earning first-team All-America honors. As a sophomore, Madsen was one of two setters in a 6-2 system, along with her older sister Clara, as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps captured the first national championship in program history. Last season, following the graduation of Clara and seven other seniors, Madsen took over the leadership reins on a young Athena team without any seniors and guided her squad to a 27-4 final record and SCIAC regular season and postseason titles. She served as the primary setter, recording 947 assists (seventh all-time in CMS history), but also frequently slid over to an outside hitter position due to several injuries leaving the Athenas shorthanded, totaling 189 kills (after only nine in her first two seasons when she played exclusively on the back row). In addition to her athletic prowess, Madsen also carries over a 3.8 GPA in economics and finance and is a strong contender for Academic All-America honors this fall.
