The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) concluded NCAA Division III Week with its annual Spring meeting on Sunday, April 7. The meeting took place at the Orange County Ropes Course in Anaheim, Calif.
With representatives from eight of the conference's nine member institutions in attendance, the SCIAC SAAC spent Sunday morning on the OC Ropes Course, working together as a team to complete a challenging obstacle course.
The group then held its annual Spring meeting and discussed several larger items that are taking place in Division III as a whole, and in the SCIAC.
Representatives from each school discussed what their institutions did during NCAA Division III Week which ran from April 1-7, noting several ideas that worked, and noting possibilities for next year's event. Other topics discussed at the meeting included the Division III Water Polo national championship which will begin in 2019-20, a discussion on SCIAC membership policy/procedure, as well as additional ways to recognize SCIAC student-athletes with an expansion to the end of the year awards.
The SCIAC SAAC also reviewed a letter put together by the conferences in the West region that called for a pilot program that would guarantee league opponents do not meet in the first round of an NCAA championship. This program, approved by the NCAA Strategic Planning & Finance Committee, will go into effect in 2019-20.
