Two student-athletes from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) were recently named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Team selected by CoSIDA, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot, with first and second team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June. The Google Cloud Academic All-America program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division. The College Division includes all NAIA, Canadian, two-year schools and other affiliations.
Tyra Abraham of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) was named First Team All-West District after turning in an outstanding track & field performance in her final collegiate campaign. Abraham, an anthropology and media studies major with a 3.69 GPA, helped the Athenas clinch a SCIAC title, place fourth at the NCAA Division III Championships, notch All-American honors in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, in addition to earning an individual national crown in the 100-meter dash.
Pomona-Pitzer's James Kinney, a cross country and track & field student-athlete for the Sagehens, helped his team win the 2017 SCIAC cross country and the 2018 SCIAC men's track & field crowns. Kinney, a mathematics major with a 3.78 GPA, was a First Team All-SCIAC selection following the cross country championship after placing in the top 10.
