Seven teams from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) rank in the final Winter standings of the 2017-18 Division III Learfield Director's Cup as announced by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) on Thursday.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) leads the SCIAC with 417.50 points and is slotted in 17th place following a terrific Winter season. The CMS men's basketball team secured the SCIAC Tournament title and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship en route to earning 50 points and placing 17th in the Learfield Cup. The Athenas' swimming & diving team also registered 54.5 points following a 19th place showing at the NCAA Championships while the Stags' swimmers and divers hauled in 48 points following a 25th place performance at the four-day national meet. Both of CMS's swimming & diving teams took second place at the SCIAC Championships.
Pomona-Pitzer is ranked second among SCIAC schools with 238.00 total points following Winter season action, and is placed 43rd overall - 11 places higher than where it ranked in the Fall. The Sagehens glided to an eighth place finish and 70.5 points in the NCAA Championships in men's swimming & diving, and picked up 69 points and a nine place finish in women's swimming & diving. Pomona-Pitzer's men's and women's swimming & diving teams each won their respective SCIAC Championships.
Cal Lutheran secured 75 points following outstanding efforts in both men's and women's swimming & diving and have now totaled 164.00 points to sit in 75th place following the Winter season. The Regals notched 39 points and a 34th place mark at the four-day NCAA Championships, while the Kingsmen took 38th place and posted 36 points following the national meet. Cal Lutheran placed fifth on the women's side at the SCIAC Championships, while the men's squad finished third at the conference event.
Occidental, which logged 75 points in the Fall, added 40.50 points for a combined score of 115.50 points through the Winter. The Tigers' men's swimming & diving team accounted for 40.5 points after notching a 33rd place finish at the NCAA Championships. Occidental finished fifth on the men's side at the SCIAC Championships this season.
With 50.00 points each, Chapman and Whittier are currently slotted 170th in the Learfield Standings following the Winter season. The Panthers secured 25 points after the women's basketball team won the SCIAC Tournament title and advanced to the NCAA First Round. The Poets earned all 50 of their points in the Fall season.
Caltech registered its first points in Learfield Standings after the Beavers' men's swimming & diving team registered 24 points and a 49th place overall finish at the NCAA Championships. Caltech finished sixth at the SCIAC Championship.
