Whittier Director of Athletics Robert Coleman recently announced that Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and head softball coach Dee Dee Kingsbury has resigned to take a Student Academic Counseling position at Cal State Fullerton.
"Dee Dee has done a remarkable job during her tenure at Whittier," Coleman explained. "She handled numerous responsibilities within athletics and she has accomplished a great deal. We will all miss her work ethic, expertise, and can-do attitude. I will personally miss our relationship we have shared. We all wish Dee Dee and her family the very best in her new adventure and hope to build off of her team's recent successes."
Dee Dee was hired in 2014 to lead the Whittier College softball program and conduct compliance/eligibility duties for the athletic department after completing twelve seasons as the Associate Head Coach at Cal State Fullerton.
Here at Whittier, Dee Dee found success winning a SCIAC Championship in 2015 along with the SCIAC Post Season Championship, which sent her team to the NCAA Division III West Regionals. That same year she was named the SCIAC Coach of the Year.
"It is with a heavy heart that I leave the Whittier College Athletic Department and the Softball Team," Kingsbury said. "I have made a decision that will allow me to spend more time with my family. After losing my mom as a young adult, I continually take the time to re-evaluate my priorities and I have realized that this is the right decision for me. These past three years have been an amazing experience and my growth as a person, coach and administrator have been immeasurable. I will forever look back on my time as a Poet with a big smile and a sense of pride. It is the people here that are difficult to leave, but I will watch their accomplishments with admiration and look forward to coming back to show my support. I want to wish the Softball team, as well as all of the teams, the best of luck this year!"
Over her three years she compiled a record of 70-62, 47-37 SCIAC and made three consecutive trips to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Post Season Tournament.
2014-15 – 28-18, 19-9 SCIAC
2015-16 – 21-22, 12-16 SCIAC
2016-17 – 21-22, 16-12 SCIAC
She sat on a number of committees, which spread across campus, the conference and nationally. They included:
Title IX Committee and Investigator
Senior Managers Steering Committee
Poet Student Athlete Leadership Academy (PSALA)
Strategic Planning Committee
NCAA Regional Advisory Committee
SCIAC Athletic Training Committee
Kingsbury graduated from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in sociology in 1994. The former Dee Dee Weiman and her husband, Mike, have a son, Tyler, and daughters, Isabella and Brooklyn, and reside in Buena Park, Calif.
