WHITTIER, Calif. – The Whittier College Baseball Team added a nice addition to its roster for the 2018 season in 5-year old Joshua Esquivel, who comes from La Habra, Calif.
The Whittier College Baseball team was lucky enough to be paired up with Joshua through the Team IMPACT "Draft Day" Ceremony. Team Impact drafts children with life-threatening and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams in order to provide strength, camaraderie and support for the child.
Yesterday he became an official Poets teammate of our baseball team, while he courageously battles Pineoblastoma.
Team IMPACT, a non-profit organization headquartered in Boston, MA has a mission to improve the quality of life for children facing serious and chronic illnesses through the power of teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes. Since 2011, Team IMPACT has matched more than 1,200 children with more than 450 colleges and universities in 46 states, reaching over 35,000 participating student-athletes. Throughout this journey, the child gains strength, camaraderie, and support while the student-athletes experience lessons of courage, resiliency, and perspective they can't learn in a classroom.
Yesterday, Joshua signed an official letter of intent to play baseball at Whittier College and is receiving an official Baseball Hat and practice jersey of the Poets. The Purple & Gold's Top Recruit will become an official member of the Baseball team and as a team member, he will join in Poet practices, games, team dinners, events, and more.
