WHITTIER, Calif. – After three months of work on the renovations to Memorial Stadium and the Aubrey-Bonham Track, Executive Director of Athletics Robert Coleman is happy to announce that the project has been completed in time for the 2017-18 year.
"The upgrades to the Wallace "Chief" Newman Field and Aubrey-Bonham Track put our football, soccer, lacrosse and track & field programs in a class of their own among NCAA Division III institutions," Coleman explained. "These renewed enhancements will continue to provide our student-athletes with the first class amenities necessary for increased performance on the field and track."
The project, which began mid-May, was recently completed with the upgrades costing around 1.3 million dollars, while being partially funded by external dollars.
Some of the new renovations/additions to both facilities include:
Wallace "Chief" Newman Field
- Field Turf
- Lacrosse Netting Installation
- Daktronics Sound System
- Goal Posts
- Conduits/Cables Underneath the Turf for Live Streaming Capabilities
- Dezember Gateway
- Benyon Synthetic Track Surface
- Whittier College Logos
- Relocation of Sandpits & Pole Vault Pit
- New runway for the Javelin
- Upgraded Landscaping
"We are all extremely grateful and appreciative of the many donors who have stepped up and provided funding for this project. It opens many new doors for the opportunities our student-athletes, Whittier's student body and numerous community organizations will have to practice and compete but also provides a first-class working environment for parts of our strength and conditioning program.
