The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women's cross country team powered to a combined score of 30 points to earn the program's seventh straight championship Saturday at the 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Women's Cross Country Championship at Prado Park in Chino, Calif.
CMS had five runners cross the finish line in the top 10 to help pace the Athenas to the team championship, led by senior Bryn McKillop who clocked a winning time of 22:36.55 to earn top individual honors in the women's 6-kilometer race.
Occidental placed second in the team scoring with 80 points, followed by Redlands with 98 points - just six points ahead of fourth place Pomona-Pitzer (104). Whittier finished fifth with 141 points, followed by Caltech (159), Cal Lutheran (192), La Verne (199), and Chapman (225).
Whittier's senior Julissa Tobias finished just behind McKillop with a second place time of 22:40.32, while Pomona-Pitzer's sophomore Lauren Hamilton placed third with a time of 22:43.81.
CMS junior Malea Martin (23:16.93), senior Roselyn Cantu (23:26.88), first-year Abby Johnson (23:27.26) and senior Kyleigh Mann (23:37.21) finished fourth, seventh, eighth, and 10th respectively.
Sagehens' sophomore Helen Guo earned fifth place honors with a time of 23:18.00, while sophomore Maria Ramirez of Redlands tabbed a sixth place mark with a time of 23:25.58. Occidental's Roxanne Valle registered a ninth place time of 23:36.55.
The end of the year awards will be released next week highlighted by the SCIAC Athlete of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Coach of the Year and Celia Peterson Award winners, as well as the First and Second Team All-SCIAC honorees.
