SCIAC Honors Athletes of Week: Cal Lutheran's Heagy, Redlands' Kelly

The SCIAC Athletes of the Week have been named and the honorees are: Cal Lutheran's Matt Heagy (men's water polo) and Redlands' Avery Kelly (women's cross country).

Cal Lutheran: Matt Heagy, Water Polo
Matt Heagy led the Kingsmen to their best finish in school history (third) in his freshman season. He scored a team high 10 goals at the SCIAC Tournament this weekend as the Kingsmen defeated Whittier and La Verne and fell to SCIAC Champion Redlands. Heagy drew ten penalties in the three games. He also picked up two assists and three steals for CLU. Overall in SCIAC play Heagy had team highs in goals (31) and assists (11). He also had 10 steals and 11 drawn ! penalti es. In all games this year the freshman scored 66 goals for the Kingsmen, drew 29 penalties, had 26 steals and 22 assists.

Redlands: Avery Kelly, Cross Country
Sophomore runner Avery Kelly (Ft. Worth, TX) led all conference competitors at the NCAA West Regional Championships last weekend with a time of 22:34.53 to finish third overall. The next fastest SCIAC runner came in 27th, nearly 1:30 after her. With her solid showing, Kelly now moves onto the NCAA Championship at Wilmington College in Ohio.
