The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 (21-25, 25-17, 25-17, 26-24) victory over top-ranked Colorado College Sunday to advance to the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Quarterfinals.
CMS (28-5) won its third straight, 3-1 decision after losing the first set, dishing Colorado College its first loss to a Division III opponent this season. The Athenas defeated Texas-Dallas and Southwestern (Texas) in the NCAA First and Second Rounds respectively.
CMS now advances to Grand Rapids, Mich. where the NCAA Tournament will conclude with the final three rounds of competition. Their opponent on Thursday is yet to be determined.
Clara Madsen and Phoebe Madsen paced the Athenas' offensive efforts with 26 and 23 assists respectively as CMS hit .308 as a team. Margaux Arntson and Melanie Moore highlighted the surge with a combined 31 kills, while Shelbi Stein and Regan Dinovitz floored nine kills each.
In the back row, Sara Tritschler notched 18 digs to lead four Athenas with double digits, as Mikena Werner finished with 13 digs, while Isabelle Taylor and Phoebe Madsen notched 10 digs apeice. Werner also served up three aces, while Dinovitz assisted on five blocks.
