Thousand Oaks, Calif. – The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference crowns California Lutheran University the SCIAC Postseason Tournament Champion. In a repeat match-up of 2015 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Cal Lutheran turned the tables and took CMS in three sets (25-23,25-19,25-16). Cal Lutheran improves to 24-4 on the season and earns the automatic qualification bid from the SCIAC into the NCAA tournament.
Hope Stewart(12) and Michelle Lawrence(11), outside hitters for Cal Lutheran together put down 23 of 39 kills for the Regals. Nicki Tetherow again had an impressive defensive effort with 19 of the team's 48 digs. Monica Lundgren put in the work at the net posting 8 blocks.
The two teams were nearly evenly matched across the board in all stat categories with the exception of errors,CMS recorded 24 to the 7 from Cal Lutheran. Nicole Kerkhof(10) and Margaux Arntson(9) went for 19 combined kills on the night.
Cal Lutheran is ranked No. 2 as of the November 1 Association of Volleyball Coaches Association(AVCA) poll. CMS now 23-3 overall is ranked No. 4 in the same poll will await an at-large berth to the 2016 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Tournament.
