SCIAC Women’s Tennis Players Represented in ITA National Rankings

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – With the 2011 campaign already underway, a number of SCIAC women’s tennis programs and student-athletes received national rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in their annual preseason poll.

Starting on March 3, the ITA will release their biweekly national and regional rankings on www.itatennis.com.

Two SCIAC teams earned spots on the national preseason poll - Pomona-Pitzer was named the sixth best team in the country with SCIAC counterpart Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (CMS) claiming the 30th and final spot in the team rankings.

Redlands was one of three schools that also received votes, but not enough to earn a spot on the national list. St. Olaf and Wheaton (MA) were the other two schools who received consideration.

One of three Athenas who received individual recognition from the ITA, CMS sophomore Kristin Lim earned the coveted #1 singles ranking in the ITA’s first poll of the 2011 season. Freshman Crystal Lim (no relation) and sophomore Jaclyn Smrecek complete the CMS presence, finishing 13th and 19th respectively on the top-20 list.

Finishing one spot behind K. Lim as the second-ranked singles player in the nation is Pomona-Pitzer sophomore Jaime Solomon. Occupying the 14th position, rounding out the list of nationally-ranked SCIAC singles players, is Redlands freshman Paige Press.

The CMS duo of Lim-Lim are the team to beat as the pair start the new season as the #1-ranked doubles team in the country. Two Pomona-Pitzer doubles teams also received one of the ten available positions; Sagehens sophomores Jamie Solomon/Kara Wang and the freshmen pairing of Samantha Chao/Arthi Padmanabhan start the season as the third and sixth ranked teams in the nation.
