Gina-Marie DiPierro made her first career start in goal on September 30 and came away with a memorable performance. The converted field player helped the Poets earn a 0-0, double overtime, tie with first-place Claremont-M-S. DiPierro was under pressure from the Athenas all night long as she totaled 15 saves. CMS outshot the Poets 51-7 for the game but the Yardville, N.J., native kept Claremont off the scoreboard. She made four saves in the first half, five in the second half, two in the first overtime period and four in the final 10 minutes of the game. The tie snapped Whittier's 40-game conference losing streak.
