SCIAC Honors Female Athlete of the Week: La Verne's Marissa Raya

A senior from Pasadena, Raya averaged 29.5 points in two wins last week to help propel La Verne into a first-place tie in the conference standings.  The SCIAC's leading scorer at 20.1 points per game, Raya poured in a career-high 35 points in the Leopards' 86-64 road win over Cal Lutheran on Jan. 17.  She connected on a season-high six three-point field goals against the Regals while recording her 100th block of her career with two rejections in the contest.  She tallied a team-high 23 points in ULV's 87-52 triumph over Whittier College on Jan. 19, finishing 5-of-8 in three-point field goal attempts.  Raya also collected five steals against the Poets to move within one steal of the school career record.  For the week, Raya shot 60.6% (20-of-33) from the field, including a 61.1% clip (11-of-18) from three-point range as the Leopards remain unbeaten in league play at 4-0.
