SCIAC Honors Female Athlete of the Week:
La Verne's Brianna Gonzales

ULV: Brianna Gonzales, Junior, Volleyball
A junior outside hitter from Whittier, Gonzales helped
lead La Verne to a 2-2 week and a 3rd place finish at the Teri
Clemens Washington University Invitational (Sept. 14-15). The
Leopards' two losses were to AVCA #2 Juniata College in four games
and #3 Wisconsin-Whitewater in five games. Gonzales was named
to the eight-player All-Tournament Team in a field that included
nine returning All-Americans. She hit .321 for the weekend,
leading the team averaging 5.0 kills per game while adding 3.7 digs
per game. She recorded team-high 20 and 24 digs against Juniata and
registered 18 kills and 5 blocks against Whitewater. In ULV's
win over AVCA #4 Washington University, she had 32 kills (school
record in the rally score era) and added 23 digs in ULV's five-game
win over the host Bears. Gonzales also contributed 8 kills, hitting
.471 in the Leopards' 3-0 SCIAC opening win over Occidental
on Sept. 11.
