Flora Earns Career Win #200 As La Verne
Leopards Sweep Caltech in SCIAC Volleyball
Nationally ranked No. 3 team posts sweep
September 26, 2006
It was a week of milestones for La Verne head volleyball coach Don Flora.
Seven days after registering his 100th victory in SCIAC competition against Occidental College on Sept. 19, Flora earned his 200th overall win as the ULV women's volleyball coach when his Leopards swept past Caltech 30-5, 30-8, 30-10 on Sept. 26 in Pasadena.
With the win the Leopards, ranked #3 in the latest AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll, improve to 12-0 on the season and 3-0 in conference play. La Verne has swept all but one contest thus far in 2006.
After completing five seasons as the head men's volleyball coach, Flora succeeded legendary coach Jim Paschal and earned his first win as women's head coach on Sept. 5, 1998 against Whittier College. He registered his 100th win against Occidental on November 7, 2002.
In his nine seasons as ULV head coach, Flora has guided the
Leopards to the 2001 NCAA Division III championship along with West
Region titles four of the past five seasons (2001, 2003, 2004,
2005) and six consecutive SCIAC conference titles (2000, 2001,
2002, 2003, 2004, 2005). Since the 2000 season, Flora's squads have
compiled an impressive 84-3 mark in conference play.
